This lovely old Californian bungalow looked grand from the street, but suffered from an inappropriately small kitchen tucked in between the passage to the diningroom and a long-defunct chimney.
The clients’ brief was for a well-organised and light-filled kitchen which would complement their legendary dinner parties, with a discreet food preparation area. They were also keen to have a utility room off the kitchen and an area for their boys to drop bulky school bags and sports kit when returning from school.
What started off as a kitchen update ended up with us removing the chimney, supporting the roof structure previously supported by the chimney, realigning four different ceiling heights between the previous kitchen, laundry and living areas, installing a full wall of bifold doors to the garden, creating a wraparound deck for extended entertaining, as well as a pizza station and two large seating areas in the newly landscaped garden. Oh – and we designed and built them a new kitchen, pantry, laundry, utility room and drinks cabinet along the way!
